How we test Plushwipes

Our test program is designed to answer four questions: Is it safe on skin, safe in terms of chemicals and microbes, engineered to disperse in real plumbing, and verified by independent labs rather than only in-house claims.

Microbiological safety
USP 61/62 Standards
Finished wipes are tested for total microbial count and specified pathogens.
  • Total aerobic microbial count and yeasts & molds
  • Specified organisms (e.g. E. coli, Salmonella, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Candida albicans)
USP-NF methods Non-sterile products
Chemical & ingredient safety
Cosmetic Safety Standard 2015
We screen for free formaldehyde, key preservatives, pH, and heavy metals in line with cosmetic safety guidelines.
  • Formaldehyde and pH
  • Methylisothiazolinone (MI), methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCI), 2-phenoxyethanol
  • Heavy metals: mercury, lead, arsenic, cadmium
Third-party lab Batch-based testing
Flushability & dispersal
IWSFG 2020 PAS 3
Testing aligned with international flushability protocols through SGS and accredited U.S. laboratories.
  • Slosh box disintegration
  • Anaerobic biodisintegration
  • Toilet bowl & drain line clearance, settling tests
  • Fiber analysis (TAPPI/ANSI T401)
Real plumbing conditions Dispersal-focused design
Human skin compatibility
Patch testing
Closed human patch testing conducted under COLIPA guidelines to assess compatibility on sensitive skin.
  • Single-application, closed patch protocol
  • Dermatologist-supervised evaluation
External test panel Sensitive areas in mind

What our latest tests show

Below is a high-level summary of recent third-party test results for Plushwipes flushable wipes. Full documentation is available for partners and professionals.

Microbiology
Below detection limits

Total aerobic count and yeasts & molds below method limits; specified pathogens (including E. coli, Salmonella, and P. aeruginosa) not detected in the tested batch.

Chemistry
No added formaldehyde or MI/MCI

Free formaldehyde not detected; MI and MCI not detected; heavy metals (Hg, Pb, As, Cd) not detected in the tested batch. pH measured in the mildly skin-friendly range.

Flushability
Designed to disperse

Plushwipes are engineered with plant-based fibers and tested against established flushability protocols, including slosh box disintegration and drain-line clearance in real plumbing conditions.

Skin compatibility
Patch-tested program

Human closed patch testing is conducted under COLIPA guidelines to evaluate compatibility on sensitive skin. Results from each panel feed into our ongoing safety and formulation review.
